HistoriaFrench American Football Set for Elite Overhaul in 2027
The HURRICANES, based in Montpellier, continue to compete actively within the framework of French American football, with their senior team currently engaged in Division 2 of the Fédération Française de Football Américain (FFFA) (montpellier-hurricanes.com). The club maintains a comprehensive structure including regional D3 teams, and junior sections for U18 and U15 players (montpellier-hurricanes.com). Meanwhile, French American football is poised for a significant reform: the FFFA has announced that in 2027 a new Ligue Élite will be established, consolidating top-level competition into an eight‑team format, divided into conferences with rigorous structural and financial requirements for participating clubs (lequipe.fr). This initiative could influence the future trajectory of clubs like the HURRICANES as the national league evolves.
