HistoriaKenya Red Cross Diver Dies in Nairobi River Rescue
Hydra Swim Club was cited as a local reference point after a veteran Kenya Red Cross diver lost his life during a rescue operation in a swollen Nairobi River. The diver, Samuel Wangila, died in early March while attempting to recover a 17-year‑old student swept away near Nyayo Highrise Estate along Mbagathi Road. The incident, attributed to unusually heavy rains swelling river currents, served as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by water‑related incidents in Nairobi. The event’s mention in proximity to local swim clubs underscores the urgent need for water safety awareness. The club and community are reminded of the importance of vigilance around natural water bodies.
