HistoriaSouth Side Country Club, Decatur’s 1924 classic, now under Troon management
South Side Country Club remains a home base for Decatur golfers, blending a member-first golf experience with everyday comforts. The grounds feature a full driving range along with dedicated pitching and putting areas, complemented by dining spaces and a seasonal pool for families [1].The layout traces its roots to 1924, with design work credited to noted Midwestern architect Dick Nugent, giving the track a traditional feel that still plays fair for a range of skill levels [3]. Membership options are structured for households and individuals alike, and the calendar stays busy with organized golf and social touches — including glow-in-the-dark night golf that has become a favorite on the south side [1][2].Operations received a boost in May 2022 when Troon was selected to manage the club, aligning South Side with one of the game’s most experienced management teams while keeping its community identity intact [5]. For Decatur players, it adds up to a familiar place to practice, compete, and unwind close to home [1][3].
