Park District Explores Turf for Baseball and Softball Diamonds
Kewanee Park District and Kewanee School District officials are evaluating a proposal to install artificial turf on the main baseball diamond and two softball diamonds at Northeast Park, which serve Kewanee High School teams. The initiative responded to frequent early‑spring field delays due to thawing and soggy surfaces. The park district estimates its capital budget of $300,000 to $350,000 may be insufficient without school district support. Discussions are underway on cost-sharing and project timing, with groundwork expected to begin in fall if approved.
