Summer baseball report: Prune Packers retake PEL lead after sweeping Humboldt
The Prune Packers reclaimed sole possession of first place by July 14, improving to 16–4 in league play (27–5 overall) after sweeping the Humboldt Crabs 10–3, 8–0 and 8–2. Pitching set the tone in the set, including a six-arm combined shutout, while the lineup kept pressure on throughout. [2]That push followed a 10–3 start in the PEL (21–4 overall) that included a seven-game win streak and a run of lopsided wins. The bats flashed depth: Will Van Wie crushed a grand slam, Zane Kelly finished a triple shy of the cycle, Cade Campbell walked it off, and JC Osorio‑Agard reached a league-leading ninth home run by July 7. [1]The numbers matched the eye test. With roughly 11 regular-season games left as of July 14, Healdsburg led the PEL in extra-base hits (89), total bases (372), home runs (35), team ERA (2.84) and opponents’ batting average (.191). Key home dates at Rec Park remained on the slate as the Pack looked to finish the job. [2]
