Ukrainian Little Leaguer and coach share LLWS journey in South Williamsport
Illia Kolomoiets, born and raised in Kyiv, left Ukraine with his mother and older brother in March and has since made his way to South Williamsport for the Little League World Series [2][4]. He joined the Europe–Africa Region team, represented this year by the Czech Republic, putting a Ukrainian-born player on the LLWS stage in Pennsylvania [2][4].Traveling with the group, a Ukrainian coach described how the chance to train and compete offered the kids a sense of normalcy amid upheaval, and how simply being at the World Series felt like a breakthrough after months of disruption [1][2]. The pair have embraced the LLWS atmosphere in South Williamsport, taking in the tournament setting and the moment that comes with representing their home country’s baseball community on a global youth stage [1][3].Their path highlights the Europe–Africa pipeline that can carry young players from across the region to Williamsport, even in a year defined by challenges far beyond the diamond [2][4].
