Water Conservation Project Advances at Big Cypress Reservation
A significant environmental initiative is underway at the Big Cypress Reservation, where plans to construct water control and treatment facilities on tribal lands aim to revitalize native ecosystems. The project includes irrigation cells, water resource areas, and pump stations designed to manage agricultural runoff, restore wetland vegetation, and enhance hydrology across approximately 14,000 acres of cypress sloughs, prairies, and hammocks. These measures will also address phosphorus pollution and reduce flooding risks in the Everglades Protection Area. The improvements mark a notable development for land management and ecological restoration on the reservation. The Big Cypress Reservation is poised to benefit from this forward-looking conservation work.
