Milestone man: Mike Grayson hits 600 wins as Shelby Post 82’s 2018 group rolls to 31–4
Shelby’s dugout steadied behind a familiar voice in 2018, when Mike Grayson reached the 600‑win plateau in his 28th season leading Post 82 [1]. By early August he stood at 618 career victories and spoke of staying on the job in Shelby [4].Grayson’s tenure has produced hardware: two state championships, three Area IV titles and five Area IV regular‑season crowns [1]. The 2018 side fit the mold, going 31–4 as Area IV’s top team and finishing as state runner‑up, paced by bats from Ben Ledbetter (.352, 4 HR, 28 RBI), Colby Ferguson (.382, 23 RBI) and Logan McNeely (.373, 22 RBI), and arms from Dalton Putnam (8–1), Ferguson (5–1) and McNeely (7–0, 1.63 ERA) [4].The program has also featured in American Legion Streaming Series matchups with Asheville Post 70, a showcase of the rivalry’s summer cadence [2][3].
