Shelby Post 82’s roots and Asheville rivalry keep Legion tradition strong
Founded as Warren F. Hoyle American Legion Post 82, the chapter’s centennial record traces a deep civic footprint in Shelby and early members who helped build the post. The same spirit fuels a long-running American Legion Baseball program in town. [1]That tradition plays out yearly against Asheville Post 70, with meetings streamed from both parks in the American Legion Streaming Series. [2][3]Shelby’s bond with Legion ball runs even deeper: the city is the permanent home of the American Legion Baseball World Series, putting the national stage in Cleveland County each summer. [4]
