Town of Hempstead Proposes Synthetic Turf Conversion for Baseball Field
The Town of Hempstead has proposed comprehensive improvements to an existing baseball field at East Meadow High School, converting it to synthetic turf with multipurpose outfield use. The plan includes replacing chain‑link backstops, dugouts, fencing and the scoreboard, as well as installing batting and bullpen areas, new concrete walkways, field lighting and relocating shrubs currently lining the west side of the baseball field. The project also entails reducing the western parking lot by approximately 20 spaces. Environmental review determined the improvements will not have significant adverse impact. The enhancements aim to modernize the baseball field and support multi‑sport functionality.
