HistóriaFairbanks Amateur has long anchored the local summer; 2019 edition ran July 26–28
Every summer, the Fairbanks Amateur sits at the heart of the city’s golf calendar, a stroke‑play staple that traces its roots to 1971 and has been organized by the Fairbanks Golf Association since 1982.[2] The FGA itself operates as a community golf club in Fairbanks, promoting the game and member services across the Interior.[1]The 2019 championship ran July 26–28, opening at Fairbanks Golf Course and closing at Chena Bend, with roughly $5,000 in prize money on offer.[2] Players also chased closest‑to‑the‑pin, longest drive, and most accurate drive honors, plus multiple hole‑in‑one bonuses, including a $10,000 ace prize backed by the FGA.[2]That summer’s field featured familiar local names, with past champions such as Shawn Yim on the men’s side and Cathy Shuttlesworth among the women, while FGA president Kelly Oines co‑chaired tournament operations.[2]Beyond the Amateur, the association’s slate includes a two‑day Fairbanks Senior Amateur, a one‑day Mixed Scotch Doubles, and year‑round GHIN handicap administration for local players, while cooperating with statewide efforts through the Alaska Golf Association.[1]
