Macon Bacon reject call to change name after advocacy group’s letter
In June 2023, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine sent an open letter urging Macon’s summer club to drop the “Macon Bacon” name over health concerns tied to processed meat and bacon‑themed menu items [2]. The organization stood by its identity, publicly stating it would keep the name and noting plant‑based options are available at the ballpark [2].The “Macon Bacon” name was originally unveiled on September 27, 2017, ahead of the team’s debut season in the Coastal Plain League [1].
