Pirates Charities to Upgrade Youth Baseball and Softball Fields in Pittsburgh
Pirates Charities and the City of Pittsburgh recently announced a new initiative to upgrade 20 youth baseball and softball fields across the city, a move that will indirectly benefit the Morningside Baseball Association and its eponymous softball counterpart. The Fields for Kids program, presented by Highmark, is investing $300,000 in infrastructure improvements—approximately $15,000 per site—focusing on playing surfaces, drainage, equipment, and accessibility enhancements. The Pennsylvania Laborers District Council will match the investment by installing new scoreboards and training city parks staff on field maintenance. The upgrades are expected to improve safety and inclusivity, supporting youth leagues across Pittsburgh, including those serving Morningside neighborhoods.
