Pittsburgh invests in youth baseball infrastructure
Pittsburgh City Council approved a substantial investment aimed at enhancing youth baseball and softball facilities across the city. A $300,000 grant awarded by Pirates Charities through its Fields for Kids Program will fund upgrades to approximately 20 city-owned youth baseball fields. Improvements include the installation of crushed red brick infields—matching the material used at PNC Park—and the acquisition of a laser grader to improve field drainage and maintenance efficiency. These enhancements are poised to benefit programs such as the 14th Ward Youth Baseball Association, supporting its mission to offer quality baseball and softball experiences to local youth. The funding is expected to bolster safe, playable conditions across Pittsburgh’s youth sports community.
