PONY League World Series Features International Competition, Rules Align with Pro Baseball
The South Side Lyons Baseball Pony League is part of the broader PONY Baseball & Softball structure, which annually organizes leagues and tournaments across the United States and internationally. PONY Baseball, founded in 1951, now involves over 500,000 youth players across 4,000 leagues globally, offering age-bracketed divisions from ages 4 to 23 (en.wikipedia.org). In recent developments, the 2025 Pony League World Series saw youth teams from across the globe competing in Taiwan, where Washington, Pennsylvania triumphed 6–4 (en.wikipedia.org). The emphasis on an advanced form of play, featuring elements like lead-offs and stolen bases, reflects the league’s commitment to mirroring professional baseball rules at the youth level (10news.com).
