Public Art Installation Enhances Bob Shelden Field Facility
Brookings’ Bob Shelden Field recently welcomed a permanent baseball-themed sculpture titled “Play Ball!”, designed by artists Jeffrey Reed and Jennifer Madden. Commissioned by the Brookings Public Arts Commission and supported by a $200,000 investment, the installation features a bouncing baseball seemingly caught in a glove that doubles as seating and backdrop for team photos. The addition provides both an artistic focal point and functional amenity for visitors to Bob Shelden Field. The sculpture has been well received by the public, contributing to the field’s visual appeal and enhancing the overall environment around the historic venue.
