Tee Ball to AAA: How 14th Ward develops its youngest ballplayers
Single A / Tee Ball (ages 4–6 by May 1) introduces the game in a fun, safe setting: weekly 75–90 minute sessions mix skill stations and a short 1–3 inning game. Coaches use soft toss or coach‑pitch with the tee available so every child hits and fields each inning. Jerseys and hats are provided [1].AAA (ages 9–10 by May 1) is the step into kid‑pitch baseball, building position play and game awareness—pitching, bunting, walks, steals, overthrows and live‑ball situations—while keeping the emphasis on sportsmanship. Teams practice during the week and play on weekends across spring and fall, with a regular season and playoffs on East End fields such as Frick. Players bring glove, helmet and bat, with league guidance on approved bats; jerseys and hats are supplied, and financial aid and equipment help are available [2].
