Grantsville Softball Coach Makes Triumphant Return Amid Season Success
Tony Cloward, head coach of the Grantsville varsity softball team, has made a full recovery after battling Guillain-Barré syndrome and returned to the sidelines to lead the team to their fourth consecutive state championship. Cloward was hospitalized for 81 days earlier this year before resuming coaching duties and supporting his team during live-streamed games. Under his leadership following his return, the team secured a thrilling comeback victory in the state quarterfinal—overcoming a seven-run deficit to win 9–8—before ultimately capturing the state title this past weekend. The club’s resilience reflects Cloward’s own determination and marks a notable success for the softball program.
