Houston Unveils Major Youth Soccer Legacy Initiative Ahead of World Cup
Harris County Youth Football and local youth soccer stakeholders are set to benefit from a significant legacy initiative linked to the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup. The program, titled Freekicks Soccer, is a joint effort involving the Houston World Cup Host Committee, the city of Houston and Harris County precincts to expand grassroots access to soccer. The initiative includes the construction and refurbishment of 23 soccer pitches across underserved neighborhoods and the provision of more than 1,200 annual scholarships for boys and girls to join soccer clubs (sportsbusinessjournal.com).
