Ngātea Netball Courts Begin Year-Round Resurfacing
The Hauraki Plains Netball Centre (HPNC) has commenced resurfacing work on four flood-prone netball courts at Ngātea’s Hugh Hayward Domain. The project tackles persistent drainage issues that previously rendered courts unplayable after moderate rain. Funding for the $370,000 undertaking was secured through grants from Trust Waikato, Grassroots Trust, Lottery Community Facilities and centre contributions, with project management provided by Hauraki District Council. The resurfaced courts, featuring improved drainage and safety compliance with Netball New Zealand design guidelines, are expected to be completed by late February to early March 2025, enabling year-round use. The project also includes multi-sport line markings for tennis and pickleball. The team continues efforts to restore full functionality, including painted lines and goal posts.
