Rio Rancho Baseball Earns Top Seed in 5A State Playoffs
Rio Rancho Baseball, also known as the Rams, secured the No. 1 seed in the New Mexico Class 5A state postseason after clinching the District 1‑5A championship with a 9‑6 victory over Piedra Vista. Senior Jacob Lucero provided stellar relief, hurling three innings of two‑hit, scoreless baseball to earn the save, while Dean Ellison contributed two doubles and three RBIs to power the offense. The team enters the playoffs in strong position to host a best‑of‑three opening series next weekend. McDermott Baseball, training at the McDermott Athletic Center in Rio Rancho, may benefit indirectly from the heightened interest in local baseball as the Rams advance into the postseason.
